Well, it's high time I ponied up and got publishing on the web again for myself. After countless Wordpress iterations in the past, I've opted to build my own setup. As one of the members on the CakePHP team, it sounds a bit hypocritical to advise others to jump on the CakeWagon™ whilst trying to reinvent the wheel on my own domain. I've ended up coding my own thing for the following reasons:
The last point ended up being the kicker. I've always been a closet information scientist, so personal knowledge management and the semantic web have been hobbies of mine. Past just being a blog, I wanted a spot where I could aggregate notes and build my own personal knowledge base. The new domain name reflects that to some degree. More on this to come.
I've also found that microblogging is much easier and natural for me. When I macroblog, I usually rant. This space will be reserved for "mezzo-blogging" - small as possible, but larger than a few hundred characters (and hopefully more or less rant-free).
I've also opted for a much simpler design. I'm finding that while I can usually create something I like, it's really hard to keep fresh. I'm hoping that the new simpler look will allow me to make incremental changes easier.

Apologies in advance for any bugs you might encounter along the way.
